Depression can be caused either due to genetic disorder or because of nervous shock. There is various type of depression ranging from mild to severe degrees of depression. A person who remain depressed may have difficulty in sleeping or too much of sleeping, tiredness, hopelessness or worthlessness. A person who remains depressed has either poor appetite or overeating tendency. They also have difficulty in concentration and decision making.
Biological therapies including electro convulsive therapy (ECT) and drug therapies are found very effective in treating patients suffering from depression. Social skills training and cognitive therapy are also used for the treatment of depression.
The basic factors leading to depression is hearing of some shocking news which gives as real nervous shock to the person, like a sudden death in the family or loss of financial position etc.
Hearing of some unexpected news like those mentioned above can give
terrible shock to a person. If an individual doesn’t have the capability to withstand any such traumatic news then he/she can fall the victim of depression. Depression is one of the most common psychological disorders. It can also be suspected in any individual right the time of his/her birth. This is actually due to the default of genes in that individual. It can also be hereditary because of the secretion of some imbalanced hormones. It can only be detected by observing the behavior of the individual and examining him. Then only the treatment can be given to the depression patient. It arises a lot of anxiety, guilt feeling, worthlessness and hopelessness in the patient of depression. Most people with clinical depression don’t recognize that they have it and they just try to avoid treatment blaming stress and physical ailments for their lack of well being. It has also been found that lack of control over their own lives is also related with depression in humans which is connected to the depression in women whose chances of depression are almost twice than that of the men.
Depending on the cause of the depression the psychologists try to give advice and counseling to his patients. Both oral communication and medical treatment is required to overcome the depression.
